Math Suggestions for Home for May

 

                

  • Count the number of stars on a United States flag.
  • Memorial Day was first observed on May 30, 1868. How many years have we observed this holiday? Research Memorial Day on the computer or in an encyclopedia.
  • Draw and color the American Flag.  Estimate what fraction of the flag is red, what fraction is blue, and what fraction is white.
  • Using star stickers, create an array equal to 24.
  • Calculate the area of your garden.
  • Estimate how many tulips will fit in a vase.
  • Create a list of 10 special jobs you can do for your mother.
  • Bake your mother her favorite cake. Remember to use your measuring skills for the recipe.
  • Count how many Mondays and Fridays you have left in school.
  • Take a walk around your neighborhood.  Look for 2D and 3D geometric shapes.  Can you find a triangle, a square, and a hexagon?  How about a sphere, a cube or a rectangular prism?
  • Review your math notes each night as you get ready for SOLs.
  • Visit EHE’s Portaportal and practice 10 minutes on each subject.
  • Cinco de Mayo is a result of an event on May 5, 1862. How many years ago did that event occur? Research Cinco de Mayo on the computer or in an encyclopedia.
  • Be the cashier at your family’s yard sale.
